Managed Money

There is a significant difference in the investment world when it comes to having a financial advisor invest your money or manage your money.

Investing Money

When a financial advisor invests your money for you they are simply taking your money and allocating it according to a questionnaire you’ve filled out – then they let the mutual fund managers take it from there with little or no input from your financial advisor. We see many portfolios that have experienced no capital appreciation since the year 2000.

Managed Money

At Onelife Wealth Management, we manage your money. We follow the “buy low” and “sell high” philosophy and we take emotion out of financial decisions. We actively manage how your money is allocated at all times. This sounds simple but a lot of emotions come with investing: Fear can cause people to sell their investments at the wrong time – when they are low and after losing money; Greed can be even worse because when people have made tremendous gains from a particular investment, they tend to become greedy and want more – when actually they should be selling the investment when it is in a gain position.

Managed Money

Obviously we don’t know when the markets will go up and when they will go down. But we do know that both of those things will happen. When your investments have made money, we like to move those gains into low risk investments as the gains are earned (this is called “selling high”) – this protects your gains while also providing money as “buying power” for when the markets crash again. When you have buying power, you have more control over when and at what price you’re going to purchase a particular investment. Once the market begins to correct, we are able to recommend that you start to reinvest in the stock market again (this is called “buying low”). Once this happens, we now wait for future potential gains and start the “selling high” process again. Now your money is being managed, rather than simply invested.
